When I first thought of Greener Milwaukee, I was living in New York City. You would think I was, but alas… I was. Why there? Simple, I missed the forest, prairies and people of home state. So…after one-too-many 5am subway rides back from Manhattan after a day of work and a night of carousing, I decided things had to change. I wanted to ride my bike on the trails I missed and help bring Milwaukee what it so desperately needed. A re-branding and revitalized community spirit…

So after a few months of re-acclimating to beer, brats, and ball games I said, “Enough – this city needs more opportunities!”

And Greener Milwaukee was born.

It’s been a shoe-string struggle using social media as the main lure of gravity, however after some initial interest and a snowballed birth -Greener Milwaukee has grown to the next level of community assistance. Jobs.

This week marks the first push to get Greener Jobs out into the world and for the benefit of all. As iHeart is founded on the principals of “people, planet, and profit” “Greener Jobs” seems like a natural next step for the nearly 350 member strong, “Greener Milwaukee.”

I’ll keep it local to start and want it to organic in scope. That means we’re going to start simple, and start here. In Milwaukee.

Please sign up for Greener Jobs on Linkedin and/or Facebook to get started, there is plenty more a’growing and a’coming soon.

iHeart MKE

iHeart Company, LLC has been working on a variety of projects of late. The three largest items of interests are:

Very Milwaukee indeed. The first two, both Greener Milwaukee & Our Milwaukee go hand in hand as my friend Teresa Kopec of Radio Milwaukee vouched for me to Todd Leech of Beans & Barley (and many other things!) to give a presentation at a restaurant on how to “Green Your Business” I was delighted at first, but then received surprise news that brought me to Chicago that day. So in short order, Greener Milwaukee did not get to help out that day as originally planned.

I think the inclusion of iHeart into Our Milwaukee makes sense as I respect the businesses listed there and would hope that it would being a level of trust on a hyper local level. I do know most of the owners already, but it doesn’t hurt to show your support and take part in any community that you are in. Both organizations hold hundreds of members.

On that same note of locality, the iHeart MKE events have been more of a challange to get off the ground. I have used social media to push these events, yet as I recently moved two weeks ago & switched jobs last week haven’t had the time in vest into a proper campaign for these.

The campaign has lacked outside support and truthfully, I think once a week is too demanding and complex for this market to realize weekly iHeart events and their full potential under it’s current structure.

That would be my challenge to overcome… now if I could just find more time for the new Greener Milwaukee Blog.
